Artist’s statement:

Designed for the International Poster and Competition Anti-AIDS in Ukraine, these two posters use two interlocked safety pins set against vibrant backgrounds as a metaphor for sexual intimacy and the caution it demands in the age of AIDS — a subject rarely addressed directly within the visual culture of Islamic countries. The posters draw on a modern Western design sensibility to render a deeply private subject legible within a society shaped by severe censorship.
